Cristiano Ronaldo is putting his money where his body is.
The Portuguese soccer icon will invest and become an official global ambassador for Whoop, the wearable technology company. The financial details of the investment have not been disclosed, but according to Whoop, the deal represents one of Ronaldo’s “most significant investments to date.”
The 39-year-old soccer star joins the company’s growing roster of global ambassador investors, including Eli Manning, Rory Mcllroy, Patrick Mahomes and Michael Phelps.
“Whoop has had a transformative impact on my life both on and off the pitch,” Ronaldo said in a statement. “I wear Whoop while training, sleeping and recovering. It’s been one of the most important tools helping me elevate my game and monitor my health.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner announced the investment earlier this morning on Instagram to his 629 million followers.
Ronaldo’s investment and partnership with the company coincides with the announcement that Whoop will expand its operations to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. The Boston-based company recently expanded its services to Hong Kong, Israel, Korea and Taiwan and will soon be available in India, Mexico and Brazil.
Ronald’s investment in the wearable technology company is an obvious choice, as his success is built on his determination to perform at the highest level.
“Cristiano has been a Whoop member for a number of years,” said Will Ahmed, Whoop founder and CEO. “Cristiano’s relentless pursuit of improvement and perfection mirrors our mission.”
Ronaldo was the highest scorer globally in 2023 and is currently the top scorer with 47 goals in 44 matches in the Saudi Pro League. He is expected to play in the UEFA European Championship, which will take place in Germany this summer.
He joined Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr in 2023 on a $75 million-a-year contract as a free agent after agreeing to terminate his contract at Manchester United.
